Vote YES on San Antonio Prop B
Fix SAPD
Accountability from our government is something that all Texans demand and expect. This is particularly more important when it comes to a police department, which every day plays a critical role in the safety of the residents of a city. San Antonio uses collective bargaining to reach agreements with its police officers union, which critics say has made it difficult to discipline officers who engage in misconduct. If Prop. B is approved, it would move such agreements to a “meet and confer” system, which other major Texas cities already use.
Approval of Prop B is a sensible step that will improve police accountability.
Holding police accountable for misconduct is a step in improving public safety. The taxpayers of San Antonio want a rigorous system of police accountability that they can trust. Voting YES on Prop B will help get the accountability that taxpayers deserve.
Red tape shouldn’t prevent discipline for police officers who engage in misconduct. But the current agreement includes provisions that make it more difficult to do just that. A YES vote on Prop B will ensure robust accountability measures can be part of any future agreements between the city and law enforcement.
Approval of Prop B will allow the people of San Antonio to have a greater say in how officers found guilty of misconduct can be held accountable when police contracts are negotiated. San Antonians should vote YES on Prop B this May 1.
More accountability and transparency in local government is something that all San Antonians can agree on. Voting YES on Prop. B is a sensible step toward police accountability that the people of San Antonio can trust.
